From the bottom of my heart, I’m asking for prayers for my mom once again. She’s enduring unimaginable pain from multiple rib fractures, a broken nose, a forehead laceration, and a bed sore—all injuries that could have been avoided. Please pray for her swift healing and for me to find adequate care for her advanced dementia. It feels like such a basic need, yet it’s heartbreaking how hard it is to achieve right now.
The care at rehab facilities and nursing homes in Florida are appalling. Massive corporate companies prioritize profits over care, protected by armies of attorneys who shield them from accountability. Decisions are made in boardrooms with no regard for the residents’ well-being and that indifference trickles down to create a culture where neglect is the norm.
My mom has suffered multiple serious falls, and the last one—resulting in these devastating injuries—was completely avoidable. If the staff were properly trained and took even basic precautions, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s all on video, but so far, the facility is refusing to provide or show me the complete, original footage. Instead, they only shared an edited, slow-motion version that was bad enough. This lack of transparency raises even more questions, and I can’t help but wonder how much of this could have been prevented if they had done their job.
I visit my mom every day—after work, on my lunch break when I can, and sometimes in the morning for surprise visits. Despite this, I often find her alone, disoriented, and seeking reassurance. Staff walk past her without a word. She’s frequently left soiled, and I’m the one cleaning her, taking her to the bathroom, and doing the things they’re supposed to do. Instead of spending quality time with her, giving her the love and comfort she deserves, I’m filling in for their lack of care.
Because she has dementia, she doesn’t understand what’s happening and forgets everything, making her even more vulnerable. I can’t help but think of the other residents, those whose families can’t or don’t visit daily. What happens to them?
Residents, especially those with dementia, are treated like second-class citizens. This is their home, yet they’re denied safety, dignity, and respect. While I’m grateful for the rare nurses and caregivers who genuinely care, the majority are indifferent. Some hide in the back of empty resident room doors or sit on their phones while alarms blare at every nurse’s station. I know because I’m there every day, and I see it.
Florida’s minimal staffing guidelines and lack of oversight have enabled this crisis. I’m calling on @vanessa4florida, @SenMarcoRubio, @RepGregSteube, @GovRonDeSantis and @RickScott to address this disgraceful situation. Our vulnerable seniors deserve better. The lack of compassion, care, and accountability in these facilities is unacceptable, and it has to change.
I’m overwhelmed and desperate for help. Please pray for my mom, and for every resident enduring this systemic neglect. I also pray that those in power finally step up to ensure all seniors are treated with the care, respect, and dignity they deserve.
Thank you for listening.
