🌹 Though this painting appears peaceful, Van Gogh was enduring a severe mental crisis at the time. While at a psychiatric clinic in Saint-Rémy, he sought solace in nature. He painted the fragile blossoms naturalistically, but used bold outlines and flat colours for the leaves.
