Americans are spoiled. You aren’t poor because you can’t afford bunch of vacations per year, Starbucks everyday, target runs and bunch of toys for your kids.
I think people here have been so greatly blessed that they’ve lost touch on what reality is for vast majority of the world.
I grew up overseas in a place where there is a military base. All everyone ever did was look up to the Americans, and how blessed they were. The best things we ever had or owned were given to us, or purchased by the Americans living on base.
My grandpa didn’t have a single pair of shoes he called his own until he joined the military and was sent off to war. And this is just two generations back from mine. We grew up in the middle of nowhere. I had never even heard of Burger King until I was a teenager. I still remember when we finally got a dryer, and the bath towels no longer felt like you were exfoliating your skin every time you dried off. We didn’t have vacations far away, goodness we didn’t even have an actual supermarket until much later.
And yet with all of this I look back and all I have are happy memories. We played outside until the sun went down with an old soccer ball that had seen much better days. We rode our bikes all around, and to our friend’s homes. We played in the yard and made up games from the plants, sticks, and things we had around. Not a single time do I remember being upset at my parents for not having more. We were happy, fed and loved.
Moms and Dads do not feel pressured into keeping up with everyone else. Kids don’t need a bunch of material things. If you live in America you are already greatly blessed, beyond what the vast majority of the world will ever have.
The constant need to have, and buy more will never bringing you, or your family happiness and joy. That can’t be bought. It can only be grown by thankfulness. Be thankful.
