🔥🔥🔥 Gardenia 🔥🔥🔥
Also known as the plant that, most of us buy and almost certainly will die on us 🙈
When you see its gorgeous big flowers, feel the strong sent and get mesmerized by its dark bushy leaves, you are almost condemned to take it home.
And then the drama begins, at first for a week or two all is great and then the first leaves start to yellow, buds turn brown and fall before they flower and we are on the path to total loss. Happened to me more the once and most likely to you.
Why is this happening? And how could you not lose your next one?😅
First thing : Gardenia lives in very acidic soil. Ph 5 to 6 .
Also it loves water, but, really, really fast draining otherwise it will rot faster than you can imagine.
So the main reason for countless dead Gardenias is water . Tap or well water is typical at 7.3 to 7.5 ph and slowly it will raise the ph of the soil.
My advice to you is this : when buying a new gardenia immediately repot it in something bigger and use the most acidic soil available. Use tones of perlite to keep the soil fast draining.
In regard to watering …try to use rain water. That will slowly increase the ph but far less than normal tap water.
At the first sign of trouble replace as much soil as possible with new acidic soil.
What do you think? Will you try it ?
Do you have tips for the community that I’m not aware of?
