Bird" Jelena Janković "I am 32 years old and I was recently diagnosed with dyslexia. Because of a very bad school system, uneducated teachers who couldn't recognize dyslexia, and because I couldn't detect it in time, I have lived my whole life in fear and hiding. Unaware of the problem I was living with, frustrated by my inability to work and study normally, I developed various methods by which I managed to avoid reading in front of friends and professors. I didn't know how to explain that the letters were shaking in front of my eyes as I read, and that I was unknowingly twisting the letters and words I was writing. I felt like a bird trapped in a cage. Only creative expression was my salvation. I visited zoos in Belgrade and Amsterdam and took pictures of caged birds that represented me and everyone else living in the same fear. Then I painted the footage, combining different techniques to show the world all the freedoms that exist from within." Photo Shot
