What is this tangled mess? It's a ball of fibreglass found in a farmer's field in Iowa after a wind turbine, for which she had signed a lease, burned and the detritus was spread over her land, there to remain in amongst the crops and rendering the ground unfit for grazing. The self-immolation in May this year was the second turbine on her land to occur; there was one last year, too.It's the subject of STT's piece today, and put us in mind of the farmer from Wisconsin who wrote, in 2007, 'What Have I Done? But think of the government subsidies, these companies are getting to put these wind turbines up. Just because they cause a little bit of pollution and you can't use the land for years that's no big deal, we're getting free green energy. Cool
