In 2015, a firework veered sideways instead of shooting upward, striking Kirstie Young in the head. The impact shattered every bone in her face and left her in critical condition in intensive care for over 40 days. She managed to survive the ordeal.
Since then, she has endured more than 30 surgeries. Kirstie lost her left eye in the explosion and also suffered a brain hemorrhage that left her paralyzed on her left side. Her right eye retains only 30% of its original vision.
