Andrew Fox has stated his position on Israel and its ancestral home in the Holy Land. He brings up several points to consider before anyone else abandons Israel over the war with Hamas. Quick read. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ A day of meetings today but three are of note: a British Jew, a tech guy, and an American-Israeli. Curious that each of them asked me, “Why are you so pro-Israel?” And it’s a weird answer because I’m not, in the sense they meant. I’m not a cheerleader: I have very happily criticised Israeli strategy; some of the IDF’s social media idiocy; events like the WCK strike; and people like Netanyahu/Ben Gvir/Smotrich and chums. But here are my foundational principles for my analysis: 1) Israel is a good country, an ally; after the Holocaust, Jews deserve a homeland and their ancestral lands are the perfect place for it to be. Jews are more indigenous to Judea than Arabs from Arabia, but Israel is a country that embraces both if someone wants to be an Israeli and live in peace. I've been to Israel. I've seen it firsthand. Israelis are not white Europeans. 2) The history of what is now Israel isn’t black and white; it’s complex with challenging ethical considerations on both sides, and there are no easy (or obvious) solutions to the current situation. 3) Having seen the 7th October massacre sites firsthand, it is unquestionable that Hamas deserve to all die in flames. Monsters. I don't usually agree with dehumanisation but Hamas have forfeited any claim to humanity. Therefore Israel’s war against them is just. 4) Civilians die in war, as an horrific corollary to combat, and from all my observations, Israel is setting the gold standard for civilian protection in modern warfare. 5) My ire is roused by the lies, and abuse of international law by Israel's, and the West's, enemies. The accusations of genocide and apartheid are unconscionably malign. As something of an expert in the field of disinformation, the patterns of this false information and its spread are nakedly clear to see. 6) The celebrations of 7 October in London were the most awakening and horrific political event I've seen in my lifetime. That variations have been allowed to continue weekly on our capital's streets is, to me, an obscenity. I will never not stand with my British countrymen and women against antisemitism. So that's my position. Just to be very clear. I don’t have an agenda, I just call it how I see it. And that’s how I see it.
