PRE-CODE HEAT -- These ladies steamed up Hollywood movies from 1929 to 1934-- when the Hays Censorship Code was not enforced. Early "talkies" showed unmarried sex, adultery, mistresses, prostitution and unpunished crime. After 1934 the Code had power and such films were not approved. Titles of early films of the Depression say it all: "Laughing Sinners" (1931), "I Am no Angel" (1933), "Safe in Hell" (1930), "Madame Satan" (1930), "Free Love" (1930), "The Greeks Had a Word for Them" (1932)
