Brooklyn-based photographer Ben Zank has a love for the unusual. Strange juxtapositions, awkward discomfort, and the often ongoing struggles of life are all expressed in his surreal photographs. Zank often depicts figures (some of which are self-portraits) physically burdened, their faces hidden or turned away from the camera, apparently in the throes of personal conflict. And yet, despite the adversity in each photograph, the element of humor is ever-present. It is hard not to smile at the absurd situations he devises for each shot. Photo Shot
