Keukenhof, Lisse, Netherlands 🇳🇱 Keukenhof is the largest flower garden in the world. It is located next to the Dutch town of Lisse, southwest of Amsterdam, south of Haarlem. Because of its size, it is often called the Garden of Europe. According to official data, approx. 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually in the 32-hectare park. The park can be visited every year from the last week of March until the middle of May. It is most spectacular when the tulips bloom, in mid-April.The park was created on a 15th century hunting ground. The counts of Keukenhof Castle grew the various vegetables and spices for their kitchen here. The garden has changed owners several times. In the 19th century, Baron and Baroness Van Pallandt commissioned garden architect Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher to arrange the gardens around the castle.The Keukenhof gardens were created in 1949 by the mayor of the city at the time, with the aim of allowing Dutch and European flower growers to present their products and to help Dutch exports.
