The imperial tamarin is a monkey with a magnificent mustache.
In 1907, the Swiss zoologist Emil August Geldy jokingly called these tamarins "emperors" for the resemblance of their mustache to that of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II. The name caught on and stuck in science.
