People act like Israel was an unstoppable superpower that came and oppressed the helpless Palestinian savages in 1948. That's not what happened. The Zionists themselves fought for freedom to establish their own state. In 1948, in the middle of ongoing Arab riots and attacks, they declared their state and expected that the situation would calm down and a neighboring Arab state would be established by the Palestinian Arabs. The Arabs did not declare their own state. What they did instead was to call the neighboring Arab nations and declare war on Israel in order to destroy Israel and take all the land for the Arabs. Israel fought a defensive war and was not significantly superior. They had fewer men, less equipment, and were alone. Israel fought hard and won, against all odds, because Israelis had discipline, were united in their ideals, and could organize better. The Arab side had internal disputes and conflicting ambitions, could not organize properly, and lacked discipline. Israel defeated the Arab League and won this war. Thereafter, Arabs who coordinated with the Arab League and temporarily left their homes were not allowed to come back to Israel. Many others were removed and told not to come back. Significant Arab communities that didn't collaborate with the invaders and were loyal to Israel were allowed to stay and still exist today. Nearly 80 years later, the Anti-Zionists make it look like the Zionists were the aggressors and the oppressors, and the displacement of many Arabs happened for no reason and was entirely done by Israel. This is how they distort history.
