Take a step back for a moment, away from politics, polls, and punditry, and consider what the abortion battle is truly about.
God created man to fill and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28), spreading his image across his creation and raising worship to his name from pole to pole. That mission requires procreation, which is the central reason as to why God made Eve as a helper (Genesis 2:18) who supports Adam in his divinely ordained mandate.
When Adam and Eve fell in sin, God still based his entire redemptive plan on the seed of the woman, who would crush the head of the Serpent that had tempted her, even as his own heel would be bruised in the endeavor (Genesis 3:15). From that moment onward, the Serpent had a particularly zealous goal to snuff out the seed of the woman (Revelation 12:13-17).
From the infanticide in Egypt (Exodus 1:22) to the infanticide in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:16), to the child sacrifice of the Old Testament into which ancient Israel was drawn (Leviticus 20:1-5), that Serpent showed his bloodlust for human life in general, but especially for the offspring of the woman, from whom the Redeemer would come.
That Redeemer, Jesus of Nazareth, was born in the fullness of time to the virgin Mary. He crushed the head of the Serpent, destroying the Devil who had power over death by his own death on the cross (Hebrews 2:14), rising three days later in victory and putting the Devil to open shame (Colossians 2:15). Jesus, the second Adam, is now drawing the nations to himself and building his Church, filling the creation with worshippers who love and adore their Creator, as the first Adam was originally meant to do.
The universal reality of child sacrifice in history has been reversed everywhere the Church advances, as more and more peoples offer their children as living sacrifices in the service of God (Romans 12:1) rather than dead sacrifices in the service of demons (Revelation 9:20).
As the floodgates of salvation open to the world, Satan continues to double down on promulgating child sacrifice, as every human soul has the potential to hear the gospel (Romans 10:15), to glorify God in redemption (Ephesians 1:12), and to participate in that original work of further spreading the worship of God.
The return of child sacrifice in our country is the fruit of our apostasy from the worship of the Triune God. The battle that Christians wage certainly involves politics as we exhort the civil magistrates to wield the sword of justice against the wicked (Romans 13:4), as well as evangelism as we impact our murderous culture by faithfully preaching the gospel (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10), but ultimately "we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).
Therefore, dearest Christian, put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18) and rely on his strength as you contend with that ancient and bloodthirsty Serpent, triumphing by the blood of the Lamb and the word of his testimony (Revelation 12:11). The God of peace "will soon crush Satan under your feet" (Romans 16:20).
May the Lord Jesus Christ be glorified, the head of the Serpent crushed, the Church awakened, the gospel increased, the innocent protected, and the evil of abortion finally abolished.
