Operated by a chain, the transmission featured only two gears—first for speeds up to 10 mph (16 km/h) and second for speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h)—but notably lacked a reverse gear. Steering was facilitated by a tiller, and the machine sported wire wheels, complemented by a 3 US gallon (11 L) fuel tank beneath the seat. On June 4, 1896, Ford test drove the Quadricycle, achieving a commendable top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h) after several trial runs. This success paved the way for Ford's subsequent ventures, including the establishment of the Ford Motor Company and his ascent to becoming one of the world's wealthiest individuals.
