///@spaceman.in: Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 and is currently over 14 billion miles from Earth. It is traveling at over 38,000 mph relative to the Sun.
It is in interstellar space, the region beyond the heliosphere - the bubble of particles and magnetic fields created by the Sun. So it is the farthest human-made object from Earth.
Voyager 1 has a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) that generates enough power to operate its instruments and transmit data back to Earth.
This RTG's power output declines over time.
NASA estimates that Voyager 1 will have enough electrical power to continue operating at least one of its science instruments until around 2025.
After that, it may still be able to transmit basic telemetry data in decreasing amounts.
The exact date when Voyager 1 will lose power and its final transmission reaches Earth depends on the actual degradation rate of the RTG.
Most estimates place the last contact sometime in the late 2020s, but we won't know for certain until it happens.
So while we can't pinpoint an exact date, we do know that in the next decade or so, Voyager 1 will likely go silent after over half a century of groundbreaking interstellar discoveries and return of data to Earth.
