The White House criticized Trump's threats and demands against NATO allies.
The day before, during a meeting with voters in South Carolina, Trump said that if other NATO members "don't pay their bills," he would call on Russia to "do whatever it wants."
"Encouraging invasions of our closest allies by bloody regimes is appalling and abnormal. It threatens American national security, global stability, and our economy at home.
Thanks to President Biden's experienced leadership, NATO is now the largest and most vital organization than ever," said White House spokesman Andrew Bates.
