The plot of the picture, where the god of time Chronos clips Cupid's wings, has a twofold interpretation.
Firstly, it brings to mind the ruthless Time, which destroys everything, including love.
Secondly, here Chronos can be interpreted as a symbol of old age. Cupid was associated not only with love, but also with carnal desires, which fade as old age sets in. Old age weakens a person's physical capabilities and extinguishes desires and energy in him, in other words, clipping the wings.
