Now HERE’s a great historical story! Enjoy It's not every day that an entire hotel rolls through the streets of Syracuse, but in 1922, this is exactly what the Hotel Truax did. This image, from June 16th 101 years ago, shows the 12,400,000lb building resting on steel rollers as it makes its way across Harrison Street. The work to relocate the building to make room for the Hotel Syracuse began on April 18th of that year, and lasted until the week of July 20th. Not only did it need to be relocated, it also had to be turned completely around. At the time, it was the largest building in the world to be moved entirely intact. To make matters more complicated, the hotel remained fully operational for the entire move, offering guests electricity, water, telephones, and even room service! #OHAStories #CNYHistory
