Tonight is Yom Teruah - Wishing You a Special Blessing on this High Holy Day and a Happy Jewish New Year! - Messianic BibleHappy Jewish New Year - blowing the shofar (Psalm 150:3)L'Shanah Tovah, may you have a blessed Jewish New Year 5782!"On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpets [Yom Teruah]." (Numbers 29:1)The High Holy Days have once again arrived, and Rosh HaShanah (traditional Jewish New Year) begins tonight! In the Bible, Rosh HaShanah is called Yom Teruah, the day of sounding the shofar. (Leviticus 23:24)Holiday TraditionsOne of the best known symbols of the Jewish New Year is dipping apples in honey. This wonderful Rosh HaShanah tradition symbolizes our hope that the new year will be sweet.Apples are not the only fruit eaten during Rosh HaShanah. On Rosh HaShanah, we will also eat pomegranate. One explanation for the tradition of eating pomegranates is that this fruit was once thought to have 613 seeds, which reminds us of the Torah's 613 commandments. The pomegranate, therefore, symbolizes our hope that our actions will be in line with the Word of God and that our righteous deeds will increase in the year to come.
