Goat Pals
We put our little boy goat out with another mama who had delivered a baby boy this morning, to see if she would accept him. Often they will, especially if they only had a single birth.
He had a good time with mama and her baby boy. Mama seemed happy to have him around, but it only worked for a visit, a playtime. Then it was obvious that he needed to come back inside.
So, today was another day of watching over the baby goat. He is getting stronger, but cannot be left in the coop without a mother to take care of him, so we do the care.
We will keep bringing him out every day to hang out with the other baby, and help him connect with him and the other mama. Baby goats need to run and hop about, and they do that best with a pal.
His own mama is not interested in him at all, but at least she can be milked for him. And that is a help.
Two mother goats and two baby boys. One mother left her boy to flounder. The other tended hers. Maternal instinct really only carries through so far. The rest is the mother's choice, even if that mother is a goat.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
Isaiah 49:15-16
Stay strong! Be the help.
