This day was filled with so much enjoyment and accomplishment, church, fellowship, canning and a visit from a friend.
We got blueberries and cherries yesterday that we wanted to can while fresh. We worked on them when we got back from church.
We got rhubarb from a friend earlier this week and we made more sauce. And we are making syrup from the pits of the cherries.
Later a friend stopped by with branches for our goats and we were able to visit for a bit.
We did not get any swimming in today, but we have been able to swim quite often this year.
I am so thankful that we are able to do all these wonderful things today. God is truly good in all things in our lives.
No matter what the past held and what the future holds, therre is help in the present and joys to be found in every day.
There is just so much that is unknown to us, but with Jesus, it doesn't need to be revealed ahead of time. It will always work out when we trust in Him.
I am thankful for the help in each day, and that we can get things done that give future provisions. Planting and harvesting teach us much of patience while we tend our crops.
And people coming from other places with their produce allows us to buy what we do not grow here. Or, like blueberries, that we do not grow enough that allows us to can what we would.
It may take more time now, to be canning during the summer months, that are already so full. But to have produce canned for later means a lot. It is a good lesson of hard work paying off, not necessarily when it is done, but at a later date.
We sacrifice our money, time and energy now, so that later we can enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Later, when we open up a can of fruit--or whatever else we canned--it reminds us that many future pleasures depend on work we have done in the past. And that our present labors can yield future rewards.
It is like striving for our Heavenly rewards. We work on them now, but we do not receive the fruit of that labor until a future date. And we can keep adding to our storehouse in Heaven, where it is protected by God and kept safe.
Our labors on Earth don't always provide us with future rewards.
Sometimes we don't plan ahead or set things aside.
Sometimes we do, but they are destroyed or stolen.
Sometimes we pass away before we can harvest what we sowed.
But Heavenly treasures are protected by God's promise. Nothing can reach them!
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on Earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21
Stay strong! Remember when you plan for the future, that you plan to earn Heavenly treasures as well.
