Wintery Mix Leftovers
Probably the least anticipated weather of all comes in the days when Winter should have let go of its hold, but does not. Instead of leaving it sends out a flurry of leftovers. That is the best way I can describe yesterday's weather.
Rainy turned to snowy sleet that started pelting tiny icy snowballs after it, steadily coating the ground that had just recently turned bare. They were not flakes, but instead perfect tiny pellets of snow, in miniature snowballs, one on top of another. It was kind of cute, though nothing we had been looking forward to.
They also piled up on the snow hills, but that wasn't as obvious--white on white.
Anything and everything started to become covered, then came the rain and sleet. Since it had risen to barely above 32°F, ice followed.
Ahhh Spring in the Northwoods.
They had predicted the precipitation would be longer and heavier and last into today. It may yet come, but today has been damp and overcast.
Thankfully it stopped at some point yesterday. We had been praying for good roads and driving conditions for all the Holy Week Services, including last night'd Gethsemane remembrance. That was going on until midnight.
When we went yesterday evening the roads were basically cleared, but wet, so it wasn't too bad.
The rain had made the snow pellets mush down and we were left with regular looking heavy snow. It looks about the same this morning.
It is in the lower 30's, not much difference since last night. Not a very warm feeling for April, but not frigid.
It does not look very Springlike with the yard still filled with snow, but the sun finally started peaking out. Once it actually warms up again, it shouldn't take long for the rest of it to melt away.
Stay strong! Looking only at surface things, you can be tricked. In the Northwoods, looking out your window it may not look like Spring, but it is.
