God's Timing
It is easy to lose heart when we come to terms with the fact that God's timing is not our timing.
But that is because God has plans for the world, not just for us.
Since God is such a personal God, we can forget that He is lining up a lot of things to fall into place at a specific time, while still allowing for free will.
It is mind-boggling! We just need to remember to hold fast, no matter what situation we are dealing with.
I imagine, that the closer we get to the coming of the Lord, the more normal things will appear to us. We will get used to the way things are. The changes will happen slowly and won't seem earth shaking. That is, until it changes in an instant.
"But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells."
II Peter 3:8-13
God could act instantly and wipe out evil, but some people who are evil now, will actually repent and surrender to Jesus later. God knows that. We do not.
That is part of what seems like a delay to us, the bringing into the Kingdom of God the harvest of those who have been turning toward the light, but haven't quite gotten there yet. We can help by being God's workers to help bring in the harvest.
In the meantime the whole idea is to live in a Kingdom of God way, not the way of the world. This world is not our home and it is not to be our guide on living.
If we give ourselves whole-heartedly to the Kingdom of God, that is where we put our treasures and it is where our heart yearns.
We see the delay as time to plant and harvest while the opportunity still exists. It is like an extra long summer. We cannot be sure that the later seeds we plant will make it to bearing fruit before the frost, but it would be a shame to ignorre the chance for a more abundant harvest.
Being faithful in each day, no matter how long, or short, our time on this earth is, is important. We should be watching for the signs of the return of Christ, but also taking advantage of the time we are given beyond our expectation, as a bonus time, and put it to good use.
There is an energy in a frenzy, stirring people up to action, but a frenzy saps long-term energy and rarely leads to good growth. And when the frenzy passes and things remain as they were, frenzied people drop off just as quickly.
Waiting on the Lord, on His timing, should be a matter of fact in our life, not just when we don't know what else to do.
There is strength in calm that does not exist in frenzy. There is endurance in realizing God is doing a work even in us, that will help us when the hard times come.
Stay strong! Be alert, but trust in God and His timing.
