San Diego County Goes Rogue: Tax Dollars to Help Illegal Immigrants Fight Deportation
El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells is calling out the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for a reckless move set for a vote on April 21. The board plans to partner with the Mexican Consulate, turning local libraries, health clinics, and county offices into distribution hubs for "Know Your Rights" materials aimed at helping people here illegally battle federal deportation.
"Tomorrow the San Diego County Board of Supervisors is voting to partner with the Mexican Consulate to help people in this country illegally fight their deportation cases. With your tax dollars. Out of your libraries, health clinics, and county offices," Wells posted.
He didn't mince words: "Our County government, the one you pay for, wants to team up with a foreign consulate to help people stay here who broke federal law to get here. Not legal immigrants. Not citizens who are struggling. People who entered illegally."
Wells slammed the scheme as no act of compassion but a direct challenge to federal authority on the backs of local taxpayers. "This isn't compassion. It's a county government picking a fight with the feds, on your dime, alongside another country."
San Diegans have long welcomed immigrants who follow the rules and come the right way. But Wells drew a clear line: "San Diegans are generous. El Cajon is generous. We've welcomed immigrants from all over the world who came here the right way. But there's a line between welcoming people who follow the rules and spending public money to protect people who didn't."
This isn't about due process—it's about county bureaucrats actively undermining immigration enforcement while Americans foot the bill for lawyers, bond help, and motions to block removal. At a time when border security and rule of law should come first, San Diego leaders are choosing to side with lawbreakers over citizens and legal residents.
Taxpayers deserve better than county offices turned into outreach posts for foreign interests fighting U.S. law. Enough is enough.
