I served in the Active U.S. Navy first for 6 yrs. the 1st 3 n half yrs. I served with my 2nd to youngest Brother Scott in Boot Camp in San Diego, Calif. then after boot camp we both went thru Apprenticeship Training before reporting onboard our Ship USS Ponchatoula AO - 148 we met up with in Subic Bay Naval Base, Phillippines. We ended up doing our 1st West Pac Deployment before returning to Pear Harbor, Naval Base, Hi. where the USS Ponchatoula AO - 148 was stationed at their Home Port. By Feb 1980 We got a new set of orders bc the " Ponch " was being decommissioned as a USS Ship and then being transfered as a Military Sealift { USNS } Ship. then our new set of orders sent us to the USS ASHTABULA AO - 51 Which was also stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base, HI. Same Home Port. My Brother Scott and I did 2 West Pac Deployments onboard the " Bula ". After my Brother Scott got out of the Navy I ended up getting a new set of orders for another ship that Home Port was Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hi, but I agreed to a set of new orders via set of swap orders to a Ship stationed at San Diego Naval Base, Ca. but only for 6 months only bc that's all I had left of my 1st 4 yrs. so I signed up for a 2 yr. extension and made my way to Norfolk Naval Base, Va. for a 2 year shore duty billet. ended up terminated what I had left of my 2 year billet where I had a year n half left to go back to sea billet back on another oil tanker, which was 1984 by this time I stayed onboard until June 1985 then got out and joined the U.S, Navy Reserves 15 Nov. 1985 until 1 Apr. 2001 which when I Retired after 22 yrs. all together. And all together I had been to the other side of the World and back 8 different times during my 22 years in the U.S. Navy & Navy Reserves.

This was my 2nd Ship USS ASHTABULA AO - 51 Home Port was at Pearl Harbor Naval Base, HI. 1980 thru 30 Sept, 1982. I made 2 West Pac Deployments on this awesome Ship which I called home for 2 years.
