JUDGE TOSSES CONVICTION OF SOMALI WHO RIPPED OFF MINNESOTA TAXPAYERS OF $7.2 MILLION FRAUD CASE ************************************ A Hennepin County, Minnesota, judge set aside a jury’s guilty verdict in a $7.2 million Medicaid fraud case Monday, leaving jurors shocked. Hennepin County Judge Sarah West ruled that the jury erred when it found Abdifatah Yusuf guilty on fraud and racketeering charges, KARE 11 reported. Stunned jurors told the Minneapolis-area TV station they didn’t have much difficulty during deliberations. “It was not a difficult decision whatsoever. The deliberation took probably four hours at most. Based off of the state’s evidence that was presented, it was beyond a reasonable doubt,” Ben Walfoort, the jury’s foreman, said. “We didn’t take our job lightly,” another juror told KARE 11. “We went through a lot of evidence and discussed a lot, took our time, but we all came to an agreement pretty easily.” Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison of Minnesota touted Yusuf’s conviction in an Aug. 12 release. “Stealing money meant for poor people’s healthcare and using it to buy luxury cars and designer clothes is as shameful and disgraceful as it gets,” Ellison said. “Minnesotans believe in helping our neighbors, but we have no patience for fraudsters like Abdifatah Yusuf who abuse that generosity to enrich themselves.” Yusuf allegedly billed Minnesota’s Medicaid program for services he never performed, overbilled for other services, provided false documentation to back up the bills and provided kickbacks to “recipients” of the phony services. Welfare fraud schemes in Minnesota have reportedly been used to fund al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate based in Somalia. President Donald Trump announced he would end “Temporary Protected Status” for Somalis in Minneapolis in response to the allegations. West’s ruling claimed that prosecutors “relied heavily on circumstantial evidence” and failed to rule out “reasonable inferences” that pointed to innocence, KARE 11 reported. “I am shocked. I’m shocked based off of all of the evidence that was presented to us and the obvious guilt that we saw based off of the said evidence,” Walfoort told KARE 11. Since the jury initially found Yusuf guilty, prosecutors are able to appeal West’s ruling, according to KARE 11.

Originally published November 2024 Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is now suing at least two doctors who have violated a Texas law (SB 14) that prevents gender transition, and medical interventions such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and genital mutilation surgeries for children, Texas Family Project reported late last month. He is being sued for giving children between the ages of 12 and 17 cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers, as well as falsifying records in an attempt to cover up his crimes. The lawsuit names fifteen patients who allegedly received such interventions from Dr. Granados. If found guilty, Granados would lose his medical license as well as face financial punishment. [SB 14] Paxton filed a similar lawsuit in October against a Dallas-based pediatrician who violated SB 14. He is being accused of providing cross-sex hormones to at least 21 children, as well as falsifying records. Regarding the lawsuits, Paxton said, “Texas is cracking down on doctors illegally prescribing dangerous ‘gender transition’ drugs to children. State law forbids prescribing these interventions to minors because they have irreversible and damaging effects. Any physician found doing so will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” The Texas Family Project reported in August that, despite the passage of SB 14, multiple sources within Texas Children’s Hospital have come forward and revealed that gender transition surgeries for children never stopped, and the doctors who do come forward are punished. Dr. Eithan Haim is under federal investigation after he revealed to Christopher Rufo that Texas Children’s Hospital is providing transgender hormones to children despite it being illegal under the new Texas law, The Dallas Express reported. Since 2019, there have been 13,994 child sex change patients, 8,579 child hormone and puberty blocker patients, and 62,682 prescriptions written for child cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers, according to Stop The Harm, resulting in over $100 million in claims.
