Are really old starters actually worth the hype? Often times on social media, we see references to very ancient sourdough starters that people are using, with an offer to buy them. I have always wondered if they are really any better than what we can make ourselves in just a weekโ€™s worth of time. In this video, I aimed to put that to the test.
In this video, I do a bake-off with a 170-year-old, 5-year-old, and 7-day-old starters, where I compare them at all stages of the process and give my top takeaways at the end.

My favorite Amazon Products Used in Videos:
๐Ÿ”—My Jar Spatula - I keep my starters in mason jars most of the time, and this is an absolute game changer when it comes to feedings. It gets right in the jar and is able to easily move around the mason jar with ease. Before this I used a spoon and it was such a headache. Highly recommend something like this if you dont have one already. https://amzn.to/44hKOUA

๐Ÿ”—My Carhartt Apron - I use this for barbecue too not just baking. https://amzn.to/4bgc8F2
๐Ÿ”—My Pastry Brush - I use this all the time for basting buns or pastries before baking as well as after baking. I have tried other pastry brushes but I always find myself coming back to this one. https://amzn.to/3xSFtHs
