Communism is against the laws of the land
From a commenter:
Eisenhower signed the Communist Control Act in 1954 because Congress recognized the party as an instrument of a hostile foreign power intent on overthrowing our constitutional government. That finding remains the law of the land. Membership and organized support were never meant to enjoy the same privileges as legitimate political activity. Today the same ideology operates openly in city halls, activist groups, and campaigns that treat American institutions as obstacles rather than inheritances worth defending. Legal technicalities and shifting cultural norms have allowed it to persist while the original statute gathers dust. Enforcing the Act would not criminalize mere opinion. It would restore the distinction between protected speech and organized efforts to dismantle the Republic from within. A nation that forgets why it passed such a law in the first place risks repeating the very vulnerabilities it once chose to confront.
My response:
And would you believe Democrats Hubert Humprey and Daniel Price cosigned that bill before Eisenhower signed it into law? That proves not every Democrat was pro-Communist. What a shock!
