Today, something extraordinary happened, something almost unheard of in the history of U.S. vaccine policy.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) declined to reaffirm the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns.
For more than 30 years, administering the Hep B shot within 24 hours after birth has been a standard, unquestioned protocol in American hospitals. But today, for the first time, the committee hesitated. They questioned. And ultimately, they refused to simply rubber-stamp the recommendation forward.
This does not automatically end the birth dose, but it shatters the decades-long assumption that every newborn needs this vaccine within 24 hours of life.
The era of unquestioned newborn vaccination mandates is over.🙌
For the first time, the committee acknowledged what parents and informed clinicians have been saying for years:
✨ The evidence does not justify a blanket policy
✨ Most newborns are not at risk
✨ Timing deserves to be reconsidered
✨ “Because we’ve always done it this way” is no longer acceptable
This is a massive shift, and a major breakthrough for informed consent, parental rights, and transparent medicine.

“For infants born to HBsAg-negative women: ACIP recommends individual-based decision-making, in consultation with a health care provider, for parents deciding when or if to give the HBV vaccine, including the birth dose.A Parents and health care providers should consider vaccine benefits, vaccine risks, and infection risks. For those not receiving the HBV birth dose, it is suggested that the initial dose is administered no earlier than 2 months of age.”
