Many people hear the call of God coming through His revelation of Himself through creation, the conscience, and the preaching of the Word. But only the “few” will respond because they are the ones who are truly hearing. Jesus said many times, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15; Mark 4:9; Luke 8:8, 14:35). The point is that everyone has ears, but only a few are listening and responding. Not everyone who hears the gospel receives it but only the “few” who have ears to hear. The “many” hear, but there is no interest or there is outright antagonism toward God. Many are called or invited into the kingdom, but none are able to come on their own. God must draw the hearts of those who come; otherwise they will not (John 6:44).

"So the last will be first, and the first will be last." ~ Matthew 20:16
If you gave the Lord 60 years of service, would you deserve heaven? You wouldn’t deserve it any more than the man who gave Him 15 minutes of service. And then there’s that one sort of overwhelming lesson that humility and a sense of unworthiness is the only right attitude. Humility and a sense of unworthiness is the only right attitude; there’s no place for envy. There’s no place for jealousy.
Tax gatherers and harlots which come in at the end of their life are going to stand with missionaries and martyrs who gave their all. All believers will be equally given the blessedness of glory. We’ll all live in the Father’s house. Nobody’s going to be down the street eight blocks and four blocks to the right. We’ll all be part of the bride adorned for the Bridegroom. We’ll all inherit the whole inheritance. We’ll all become like Christ. We’ll all live forever in the celestial city. We’ll all manifest the glory of God. We’ll all take on the image of the Savior. It’s a wonderful thing.
But the work is evangelism; it’s harvest. And everybody does it. Everybody is called to work. We don’t all work as well as we should, but the work is there. And if we are in the kingdom, we’re at the work.
God redeems those who are willing. And that’s the other side of His sovereign choice. They were there. They were available. They were willing. They knew they were dependent. They knew they had nothing apart from this. They were not the rich. They were not the self-sufficient. They were not the satisfied. They were the poor and the meek and the beggars and those without resources who would take whatever the Master would give.
Why does he keep coming back?” The only answer to that is that he represents God, and he’s coming back not because he needs more workers, but because he has such compassion.
Please do not take God's compassion for granted.

“Then they that were in the boat came and worshiped him saying, ‘Of a truth, Thou art the Son of God.’”
Something happened here to convince them of that. And what happened was so convincing that the next day when the multitude which showed up for another free meal after the feeding the prior day, when the multitude all left, the disciples stayed. And Peter speaking for them said this: “We believe and are sure that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Now you can’t make any greater discovery than that. That is the greatest discovery you can make, that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. Verse 33 is the first time they have ever said that. The Father said it at the baptism. The demons said it on the eastern shore of the sea, but the disciples have never said it before. And they have seen miracle upon miracle upon miracle. Healings, raising the dead, casting out demons. They have heard preaching and teaching without equal, and they’ve been hearing it for two years. And now they come to this monumental affirmation, which means that something very spectacular must have happened to cause such confidence and such surety as indicated by their testimony in verse 33, and the next day in John 6:69 and 70.

It demands that we tell sinners the whole truth, not part of it, but all of it. And this kind of gospel honesty is the only acceptable ministry as far as our Lord is concerned; anything less than this falls short of our calling. And the truth is, honestly, that the gospel is both glorious and dangerous. It is eternally enriching, and it is eternally ruining. The gospel has the power to compound joys everlastingly and to compound sorrows everlastingly. The gospel will escalate pure pleasure forever or escalate pure pain forever. After hearing the gospel with a measure of understanding, no sinner is the same – no, not in time, and certainly not in eternity.

Today we'll be reading about trees. Life produces fruit and good trees produce good fruit. There was a great deal of profession in the lives of the scribes and pharisees, but no evidence of spiritual fruit. Do you talk a good game? Well, you have to walk a good game as well. You not only have to talk the talk, but you got to walk the walk. And if you're not walking the walk, your talk is hollow and cheap and people know it. We'll read about builders. To build on the rock means to obey the word of God. Saying is not enough. There must be doing. If you claim to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, expect to have your profession tested in this life and the next. Fair weather faith will not pass the test.

Jesus did not come to abolish the law of Moses. His disciples cannot set aside the law simply because they don’t like it or it is inconvenient. Jesus is trying to help them to a greater righteousness and holiness. While this righteousness and holiness can be received only by grace, Jesus emphasizes grace must not mean rewriting God’s will for character and holiness so the standards are lower. This is especially true of those who teach others about God’s will. The last thing we want to do is promise an easy response to the Good News of Jesus with no demands when God has set the character, faith, ministry, life, and service of Jesus as our standard. On the other hand, we do not want to make the way for others unnecessarily difficult to follow or be the source of their drifting off the path. In sharing the Good News, we want to share the truth: God’s will, revealed through his word by the Holy Spirit. ~ Heartlight

We'll read about the voice of deception. Now, up to this point in Genesis, God's word is the only word that has been at work, creating and commanding. Now another so-called word enters the scene, the word of Satan the deceiver is a serpent that deceives a liar and a murderer. He questioned God's word and God's goodness, denied God's warning, and then substituted a lie for God's truth. You will be like God is his master lie, and people still believe it. Well, Eve was deceived when she ate, but Adam was not. He sinned with his eyes wide open. He would rather forfeit his dominion than be separated from his wife.
The consequences of man's fall are all around us, and we suffer because of them. The ultimate judgment is death. Man can overcome a difficult environment to some extent, but he can do nothing about the last enemy, death.
His only victory over death is through faith in Jesus Christ.

~ Revelation 21:8
A solemn, serious warning about the kinds of people who will be outcasts from the new heaven and the new earth in the lake of fire. The NT often goes beyond just citing unbelief in listing character and lifestyle traits of the outcast, so that believers can identify such people (1Co_6:9-10; Gal_5:19; cf. Joh_8:31). ~ John MacArthur
As verse 7 shows, these are the words of God. He has just shown John the New Jerusalem, the wonderful city where he will live with his people (22:3-5). That city is God’s gift to his people, and it will always be their permanent home. However, now God warns about an extremely serious matter. Not all people will live in the New Jerusalem; in fact, many people can never enter it.
These people will, instead, share the devil’s punishment in the lake of fire (20:10). The reason is their evil deeds. During their lives, they chose to serve the devil; after their deaths, they suffer punishment with him.
God calls that ‘the second death’. God does not want anyone to suffer in that awful manner (Ezekiel 18:30-32). He urges people to turn from their evil deeds and to serve him. If people do that, God will save them from the second death (20:6). Because of Christ’s death for them, they will join the people of God (John 1:12).
God’s list in Revelation 21:8 may help us to recognise our own evil deeds, so that we can turn from them (1 John 1:8-9). Because of fear, some people are too weak to serve God and they turn away from him (Hebrews 3:7-11). Often, that is because they refuse to believe God; so they will not trust him (Hebrews 11:6).
Some people live in an awful manner that God hates. God warns clearly against murder (Deuteronomy 5:17), wrong sex (Deuteronomy 5:18), and lies (Deuteronomy 5:20). He warns against all kinds of magic (Deuteronomy 18:9-13). He warns that people must not pray to idols (the images of false gods) - Deuteronomy 4:15-31.
God urges people to turn from all these evil things. If they do, he will forgive. He offers his kindness to everyone (John 3:16). It is very sad when people refuse to accept God’s kindness.

We'll see that each person must identify with either the harlot or the bride there can be no compromise. The woman represents the ultimate in godless world religion, and she is joined with government. Carried by the beast, by the way, and corrupts everything she touches. The bride is the true church of Jesus Christ, cleansed by his blood and destined for glory. Participating in false religion is like committing adultery. You are unfaithful to the one to whom you pledged your love. The harlot was popular for a time, but then her lovers turned on her and destroyed her. Now the Antichrist will use a world church to get himself into power and then establish his own religion.
Though Christians must be good citizens and seek to influence government for the Lord, the church must not marry political systems. The systems will only use the church to promote their own plans and then abandon it. Christ's kingdom is not of this world, and the enemy is spiritual. We must use spiritual weapons to fight spiritual enemies.
