still need a little help figuring out how to rescue my photos from FB, and I'd love to stop getting emails every time someone likes one of my posts,

I can't remember where it is buried but FB has a feature to download your entire profile which includes all you posts, photos, etc...

Also to disable notifications, go to the menu on the bottom right of the app. System Settings then Email Notifications.
