God tried to bring the children of Israel to the Promised Land where they would rest. He had made them the chosen nation. God intended for the Israelites to receive Christ and then He would use them to spread the gospel to other nations. But time after time, the Israelites rejected God's plans. When Jesus, the ultimate plan of God, came to earth, many of the Jews rejected him and saw him as the carpenter's son or a madman - nothing else. After Jesus ascended to the heavens and the apostles became filled with the Holy Spirit, there were still many Jews who opposed the gospel. They rejected the gift that God had given to them freely.
God used Paul to spread the gospel to the Gentile nations, thus exposing them to the free gift of salvation. It was always part of God's plan, for everyone to receive salvation. There was just a particular way in how it would be done. The Gentiles were far more receptive to the gospel than the Jews were, who were still fixated on fulfilling the Law.
God is not a respecter of persons. This means that He loves everyone equally - no race more than the other, no gender more than the other, no person over the others. The love is shed abroad equally and the gift was for everyone. When the Gentiles started receiving the Holy Spirit, the Jews were shocked. Some of them were resentful and tried to impose the Law on the Gentiles but their actions were refuted.
We must never think that we deserve salvation more than anyone else - no matter who they are or what they have done. Salvation is for everyone in the world. God's greatest desire is for as many people to receive salvation as possible. He sees everyone as His children.
We, as the children of God, should adopt this mindset and focus on reaching out to everyone. We should celebrate every instance when a person gives their life to Christ. We should see them as family.

Thoughts on Today's Verse....
When we were baptized into Christ, we shared in his crucifixion and burial, and were raised to be a new person through our faith in the power of God (Romans 6:3-7; Colossians 2:12-15). Christ is not only alive in us, but our life and future are joined with him in his glory (Colossians 3:1-4). The real challenge is for us to be Christ's presence to our broken world!
How do we do this? We do this as we live by faith in Jesus, who gave himself for us.
Our motivation to do this? It is not to earn our salvation, which has already been given to us by grace, and we received it by faith. Now, we do it to honor him who sacrificed his all to save us.
We can say with the apostle Paul:
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
My Prayer...
Thank you, God, for loving me and sending Jesus to redeem me from my sin. I commit to you today that I will live by faith in your Son, who gave himself so I can spend eternity with you. I ask for the Holy Spirit's power and help so that Jesus' presence comes alive in me. Through Jesus, I pray and seek to live for your glory. Amen.

God was able to help the Israelites overcome many battles and enemies that were far greater than them. God is still in the business of helping us overcome all problems and challenges that appear to be bigger than us. They may be bigger than us, but they will never be bigger than God.

View MoreFear and doubt are two of the major things that will interfere with our relationship with God if we give them the room to do so. In this scenario, in Matthew 14:22-33, Jesus had just show the disciples that he was able to walk on water. This should have shown them that he was capable of doing pretty much anything. Walk on water? Take a second to really think about what that means. Sometimes, our minds tend to normalize these miraculous feats. Think of the lake. Picture the disciples in the boat when suddenly, they spotted their leader walking on water as if he were walking on the ground. That sight is enough to send your heart right into your throat.
One can understand why they were scared. The disciples had never seen such a sight before. I'm pretty sure if you were to see someone walk on water, you'd be pretty freaked out too.
Peter boldly spoke out and asked Jesus to call him out onto the waters. Jesus did and Peter got out of the boat. For a while, he walked on water too. He was walking on water the same way Jesus was walking on water! His eyes where focused on Jesus in the midst of this supernatural feat.
Things started to go wrong when he lost sight of Jesus and started to focus on the wind. Fear filled his heart and his faith left. When fear interferes with faith, it makes it hard for us to take a leap and follow the will of God. We end up focusing on the wrong things. Fear makes way for doubt. Once doubt makes a home in our hearts, it becomes very hard for us to chase it out.
We need faith in order to be saved. We need faith in order to fulfil the call of God upon our lives. When we keep our eyes focused on Jesus - who is the author and the finisher of our faith - the journey becomes possible.
