I want to tell you will my POV on Trump; the reason I appreciate him is because he does not comply with ANY of the status quo , any of the norms of how it’s “always been done.”
He is beholden to NO ONE, especially the lobbyists who give money and expect payback and access (and, btw, who also have LOTS of Washington from BOTH SIDES listed in their little black books and by the short hairs). Ultimately, he does NOT care if the Insiders approve of him.
And I think I’ve figured out what all his outrageous, seemingly ridiculous statements are: HE'S PUNKING US. Particularly, anyone who can’t take it..... you’ve heard the old saying, “$@& ‘em if they can’t take a joke.”
That dawned on me yesterday, when I heard him say, “ [the people of England] love me“ and when he said “I’m a stable genius.” I watched him when he said it. The guy is punking anybody who can’t take a joke, can’t take his joke. He knows good and well there are people in England who don’t like him —- so his comment was taking an intentional poke at whomever can’t handle his outrageous approach. And he knows there are plenty of people who can't handle it. And he frankly doesn't care if the people who can't handle it, don't. He only wants people who have the confidence and belief in something more important, to come along on his ride.
I believe this, partly because I’ve done it myself. I was an HR leader for almost 30 years. I am a free thinker, I care deeply about helping people be successful and contribute to the success of a team, and I’m pretty unafraid to be not part of the “in crowd. “
I learned long ago, the majority of people we deal with everyday are AFRAID: scared of being different, of standing out, of not being accepted, of being made fun of... and as a consequence, meetings and projects and relationships get locked up in the way “it’s always been done”, and nothing ever changes.
So, I learned to be the monkey wrench in all of that..... and I would intentionally say ridiculous things and make outrageous suggestions and be the ONE person in the room that made everybody do a double take.... and you know what that did? It freed up people who had something to say, so they felt safe enough to say it. They’re thinking, “Hell, what I want to say isn’t nearly as stupid as that.... so I’ll look like I’m being reasonable, compared to that idiot!”
And people would start saying what they actually thought, and it totally changed the dynamics of “group think.” I intentionally let myself be the “stupid one” in the room in order to create a safer space for others to participate.
I knew there were people who thought I was an idiot.... and I didn’t care. As a matter of fact, it would piss me off that the ones who thought they were so friggin’ smart, weren’t smart or brave enough to do it themselves, thinking they are better than everybody else..... so I’d say things just to “punk” ‘em.... thinking “Screw ‘em if they can’t take a joke.”
Is he the smartest person in the room? No, but he doesn’t have to be. Does it bother him that people don’t like him? Yes. And No. He has been in a cutthroat world of real estate development in New York for 50 years...,so he’s used to people not liking him or approving of him. But, in spite of the fact that some business deals failed, he executed enough to be wealthier than most people...and that was his measure of success.
I believe he loves this country, bc it has afforded him his life. I think he’s sick of our country being taken advantage of and not being “first” ... because I don’t think anyone would argue with me when I say, Donald Trump’s pathology is to be “FIRST.”
Listen to his language; that’s what he wants more than anything. And he’s not afraid to do what it takes to be “first.” Even if that means the people that stand between him and being first, get ticked off.
And the truth is, conversations about things that have never been talked about before, are being talked about in circles who wouldn’t even broach the topic before. He is a change agent, and disruption and change is how things get done.
I think he cares about people, and is not the elitist he could easily be. I believe that, based on the evidence of things he's done long before he got involved in "politics." If I'm wrong, it doesn't do any harm to believe the best of somebody. He's certainly no worse than plenty of politicians who are in leadership positions in Washington......
He has plenty of personal failures. So what? I’m not perfect either, and most of us aren’t.... but I believe us imperfect people can actually accomplish amazing things.
And I’m focused on something much bigger than his personal failings. I am focused on what he can do to disrupt and change the crooked, corrupt political process in our Country.
And frankly, he’s the only person I’ve actually seen come close to doing that.
It doesn’t matter to me anymore if people agree with me. Freedom of thought, and freedom of speech is what America affords all of us.... and I intend to take total advantage of that right.
