ALBERTA INDEPENDENCE: WHAT IT ACTUALLY REPRESENTS
● Some “Forever Canadians” mistakenly believe that we dislike Canada or want to take something away from Canadians.
● That is not what this movement represents.
● What supporters of Alberta independence really want is to remove Ottawa—and whichever federal government is in power—from Alberta’s decision-making.
● We are not trying to take Canada away from anyone. We are asking for the freedom to determine Alberta’s own future.
WHY HAVE SO MANY ALBERTANS LOST TRUST?
● Federal Liberal government decisions have repeatedly failed to align with the priorities, values and economic interests of many Albertans.
● Even Danielle Smith’s approval rating dropped substantially, reaching a reported low of 39% in June 2026.
● Why would Danielle Smith give Albertans hope that they would have an Option 2, only to move closer to the vote while publicly campaigning for Alberta to remain within Canada?
● She opened the door to this democratic discussion, but she has also clearly stated that she supports Alberta remaining in Canada.
● To many independence supporters, this appears deeply contradictory and hypocritical—similar to the political contradictions we continue to see from Mark Carney and Ottawa.
● Nenshi, other political leaders and certain municipal mayors may also oppose independence. Albertans deserve to ask whether concerns about government funding, political influence and institutional power are influencing their positions.
● It has become increasingly difficult to trust politicians, governments and the mainstream media.
MARK CARNEY IS POKING THE BEAR
● Mark Carney’s increasingly confrontational approach toward the United States is deeply concerning.
● Canadians may agree or disagree with Donald Trump—some respect him, while others do not—but the responsibility of Canada’s prime minister is to manage this critically important relationship calmly, intelligently and diplomatically.
● Leadership is not measured by how loudly someone provokes a more powerful neighbour. It is measured by whether that person can defend our interests without placing the livelihoods and security of ordinary Canadians at unnecessary risk.
● The United States is not merely another foreign country. It is our closest neighbour, our largest trading partner and an essential market for Canadian and Alberta products.
● In July 2026, approximately two-thirds of Canada’s merchandise exports still went to the United States. That economic relationship directly affects Canadian jobs, businesses, investment and household prosperity.
● Mark Carney is poking the bear—but Canadians must remember that when someone repeatedly pokes a bear, that person does not control how or when the bear responds.
● The United States possesses vastly greater economic, military and negotiating power than Canada. Pretending otherwise does not demonstrate courage—it demonstrates a dangerous misunderstanding of reality.
● A bear may appear patient while it is resting. But continually provoking it, believing it will never awaken, is not bravery.
● It is recklessness disguised as strength.
● When that bear finally stands, the person who provoked it may discover that political slogans offer no protection from real-world consequences.
● Those consequences could include tariffs, lost investment, restricted market access, damaged supply chains, fewer jobs and increasingly difficult negotiations.
✦ ★ BEYOND THOSE IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCES LIES AN EVEN GREATER DANGER: ONCE HOSTILITY BEGINS ESCALATING BETWEEN NATIONS, NO POLITICAL LEADER CAN GUARANTEE WHERE THAT ESCALATION WILL END. ★ ✦
● No responsible person should casually predict or encourage military conflict. But responsible leadership must recognize that deliberately intensifying hostility between neighbouring countries is playing with fire—and Canadians may not like the eventual outcome.
● A wise leader does not poke a sleeping bear merely to prove that he is fearless. He respects its strength, protects his people and finds a way to coexist without surrendering his principles.
● When political leaders continually portray an ally as an enemy, fear can become a political instrument. Fear discourages questions, divides populations and allows governments to present themselves as the only source of protection.
● A statesman lowers the temperature while defending the national interest. A political opportunist raises the temperature—and then claims to be the only person capable of extinguishing the fire.
CANADIANS HAVE HAD ENOUGH
● Canadians—and especially Albertans—have heard enough promises that conditions will eventually improve. After more than a year of Mark Carney’s leadership, many people no longer want to give him the benefit of the doubt. They are judging him by what they see, what they pay and what they experience every day.
● Canadians continue struggling with groceries, housing, utilities, taxes and economic uncertainty, while Ottawa continues committing billions of public dollars to priorities abroad. In July 2026, Carney announced that Canada’s military-support commitment to Ukraine for the year totalled $2.8 billion.
● Supporting Ukraine can be defended as a foreign-policy choice, but Canadians still have every right to question their government’s priorities—especially when families at home are struggling to meet their most basic needs.
● Canadians should not continually be told to endure hardship today while being promised that something better may arrive tomorrow. Political leadership must be judged by results—not theories, speeches or promises written in books.
● Albertans have waited long enough to be heard. We have had enough of being told to remain patient while our affordability, prosperity and influence continue to deteriorate.
● Alberta independence is not about replacing control from Ottawa with control from Washington.
● It is about Albertans governing Alberta—without political control from Ottawa and without surrendering our future to any foreign power.
WHY INDEPENDENT VOICES MATTER
● This is why podcasts and independent platforms have become so important. They provide perspectives, detailed discussions and difficult questions that Albertans may not always hear through conventional media.
● Voices and platforms such as Keith Wilson, Unacceptable Fringe, Jasmin Laine, Marc Nixon, John Bolton, Critical Compass and P.J. Belt give Albertans opportunities to listen, investigate and decide for themselves.
● No single politician, podcast or media organization should tell us what to think.
● Albertans should examine the arguments, challenge the claims and make an informed decision based upon facts—not fear.
WHAT WOULD A REPUBLIC OF ALBERTA ACTUALLY REPRESENT?
● A Republic of Alberta would be a sovereign, self-governing country responsible for its own federal-level decisions—including taxation, natural-resource policy, trade, borders, citizenship, international agreements and national institutions.
● Independence would not happen instantly, nor would it automatically guarantee prosperity. It would require democratic consent, constitutional processes and extensive negotiations involving assets, liabilities, Indigenous and treaty rights, trade, pensions, currency and borders.
● But its fundamental principle would be unmistakably clear:
ALBERTA WOULD MAKE ALBERTA’S DECISIONS.
● Alberta independence is essential, in the view of its supporters, to create our own prosperity and shape our own future—for our children, our grandchildren and the generations that follow.
● This movement is not founded upon hatred for Canada. It is founded upon the belief that Albertans possess the intelligence, ability and courage to govern themselves.
● We seek friendship and fair trade with the United States, respectful relations with Canada and the freedom to determine our own future.
WE ARE MAKING HISTORY
● Remember the famous words spoken by William Wallace in Braveheart:

● This powerful saying means that governments and powerful institutions may impose hardships, silence opposition or attempt to control people—but they cannot extinguish the human desire for freedom.
● True freedom requires courage. It means standing firmly in our convictions, defending our democratic rights and refusing to surrender our voice or our ability to shape our future.
