View MoreBorn in Phenix City, Alabama, I began working at age 14 in Tuccumcari, New Mexico as bell boy / kitchen help. Raised by mom and stepfather who was in the Navy. We traveled up to 1963 and relocated where there was a Navy base. Enjoyed every minute of travel and would do that over again. I do not feel stable in any location for any length of time. It was hard to put in 42 years with General Motors and feel trapped. After the bankruptcy of GM and losing my 401K valuation of 1.3 million dollars, I was Forced out under age discrimination and diversity! We pick up, left Brandon, Mississippi and moved on. After my abrupt retirement I took a deep breath in my new cabin home, Blue Ridge, Georgia for one year. Bored to death I rented a small building on the Toccoa River 1.2 miles from my cabin. I made this building into a Grill-Grocery-Tubing-Kayak rental business. I started with $900.00 and the American dream was born. Before you know it, this business was success and known by everyone that owned cabins in the area. Many of these cabins were for vacation rental and that was they key to my growth. My first year revenue was $115,000.00 off my $900.00 investment. The growth $$ continued and by the third year, the business had put me in the hospital 3 times. The last time was life threatening and I decided it was time to move on. I decided to give back my success by paying it forward. I sold the business to a young and eager couple for $1,050.00 a month, no money down. They are, to this date, running this business and have become well known in the community. The food is fast and awesome. If you are ever in Blue Ridge, Georgia be sure and stop to see the owners and enjoy the best 1/2 pound hamburger you ever had. This business is located in the "Aska Adventure Area" on the Toccoa River.
