The Federalist Papers
They used to call Paris the City of Lights.
Right now the light is coming from burning cars.
On October 17, more than 500,000 people poured into the streets across France. Stores were looted. Cars were torched. In Limoges, a town hall built in 1883 was gutted by fire. Police made 1,800 arrests in one weekend.
Even Emmanuel Macron, hardly a conservative, blamed radical far-left groups.
None of this came out of nowhere. It's what happens when two bad ideas run side by side for decades.
The first is the socialist promise that the government will take care of everything. Teach people the state owes them a good life, and when the state can't deliver, and it never can, the anger goes straight into the streets.
The second is mass migration with no demand to assimilate. This unrest started with student blockades in the Paris suburbs, including heavily immigrant areas like Seine-Saint-Denis.
France issued a record 384,000 first-time residence permits last year, up 11 percent. Learn the language, embrace the culture, respect the law. Those used to be the basic expectations. France quit insisting on them a long time ago.
Combine a population taught to depend on the government with communities that were never asked to become French, and you get exactly what you see in this cartoon.
Here's why this matters to us. The midterms are one week away.
There are Democrats right now pushing the same recipe. More government control. More spending. Looser borders. In New York, a democratic socialist mayor signed an order restricting federal immigration enforcement on city property.
France is showing us how that story ends before we ever get there.
Don't let them change our system of government. Vote like it matters, because it does.
Do you think America is closer to France's path than most people want to admit?
