Oregon’s governor just praised a man for doing exactly what she voted to make illegal. In 2021, Tina Kotek voted for Senate Bill 554, which allowed school districts to prohibit even licensed concealed-carry holders from bringing firearms onto school property. The Bend-La Pine School District adopted that very restriction. Fast-forward to Thursday, when Kaylub Giamanco ignored that gun ban, rushed into an elementary school with his handgun, and killed a mass shooter. Afterward, Governor Kotek publicly praised him for heroically preventing further loss of life. Let that sink in. The governor voted to give schools the authority to prohibit law-abiding citizens from carrying firearms, and now she’s praising a father who saved children by disregarding that prohibition. Thankfully, this man chose protecting innocent lives over obeying a gun-free-zone policy. Governor, if you’re going to praise him for saving lives with a gun, maybe it’s time to explain why you voted to allow schools to prohibit him from carrying it in the first place.
