The Federalist Papers
Ilhan Omar posted a video thanking supporters for chipping in $5, $10 and $20 so she can keep fighting the Trump administration.
Watch it. She looks tired and haggard.
And she should.
On October 12, federal agents searched her Washington, D.C. home. The Justice Department calls it an ongoing criminal investigation. Agents reportedly seized her phone, and a grand jury in Minnesota has issued more than a dozen subpoenas, including to some of her relatives.
Prosecutors don't subpoena a congresswoman's family on a hunch.
Reporting says the probe centers on her family's immigration paperwork. My guess is that's just the front door. I think the feds are looking at a lot more, and I think she knows it.
Start with Feeding Our Future. A Minnesota House committee report found Omar's MEALS Act "took the guardrails off" the child nutrition programs that fraudsters later looted for $250 million. When the committee invited her to testify, she never responded.
Then there's the winery. Her husband Tim Mynett's company, eStCru, showed up on her financial disclosure valued at up to $5 million.
An investor had already sued, claiming he was talked into putting up $300,000 for a promised 200 percent return that never came. Court filings showed the winery had $650 in the bank.
This spring, after House Oversight started asking questions, Omar amended her disclosure to list the winery as worthless. Nine days later, it was dissolved.
Funny how a multimillion-dollar asset vanishes right after Congress comes asking.
Now she's back on camera, asking for small-dollar donations and calling it intimidation.
She can call it whatever she wants. The grand jury doesn't care.
If she has nothing to hide, she can open the winery's books and explain where the money went.
Do you think Ilhan Omar gets indicted before the midterms?
