It removes a labour-market safeguard from certain immigration pathways! On October 16, Ottawa announced changes allowing qualifying foreign applicants to use Canadian job offers for certain permanent-residency purposes without a Labour Market Impact Assessment. Let me explain why Canadians should be furious. An LMIA is supposed to examine the impact of hiring foreign workers on Canada's labour market. Under the regular temporary foreign worker system, employers generally must demonstrate efforts to recruit Canadians first. Now Ottawa is removing that assessment from specific permanent-immigration requirements while awarding additional immigration points for qualifying offers in higher-paying occupations. So where does that leave the Canadian who spent years learning a trade, earned a degree or just got laid off? Imagine applying for a job you're qualified to do, only to discover an employer is recruiting internationally. Canadians will not be given a fair opportunity. And what prevents employers from seeking cheaper labour instead of offering competitive wages? Now nothing... The new rules authorize racial discrimination and eliminate all Canadian-first hiring requirements. Canadian workers shouldn't have to compete against a system that makes it easier to bypass scrutiny of domestic recruitment. Our young people need jobs. Our families need stability. Our economy needs rebuilding. Instead of removing safeguards, Ottawa should be proving that Canadian workers aren't being overlooked. CANADIANS DESERVE JOBS, NOT EXCUSES!
