The Federalist Papers
Look at the two men in this cartoon. Same shirt, same boots, same guy.
The only difference is who's holding the strings.
Socialism promises to take care of you. To do that, government has to control the things that keep you alive: your paycheck, your healthcare, your housing, your business.
And whoever controls your livelihood controls you. When your job, your rent, and your doctor all depend on the state, how loudly will you protest the state?
That's why socialism never stays "democratic" for long. It's a short walk to communism, and history keeps walking it.
Venezuela is the receipt. Hugo Chávez didn't take power with tanks. He won an election in 1998 promising democratic socialism.
Then came price controls, seized industries, a packed Supreme Court, and a muzzled press. The result was empty shelves and nearly 8 million people fleeing the country. Within a generation, elections there stopped meaning anything.
Now compare that to what the Founders built. A republic.
You elect the people who represent you, and you can fire them at the next election. The First Amendment protects your right to speak, worship, assemble, and protest when government gets it wrong. Power is limited, written down, and divided so no single hand holds all the strings.
Here's the alarm. A 2025 Cato/YouGov survey found 62% of Americans under 30 view socialism favorably.
Many of them are right about the problems. Rent is brutal and starter homes are out of reach. But they've been sold a socialist utopia that has never existed anywhere on Earth. Even Denmark, the country they point to, has told the world it's a market economy, not a socialist one.
We owe the next generation more than slogans. Teach them economics. Teach them history. Teach them what happens when you trade freedom for a promise.
Cut the strings while you still can.
What's the one lesson about socialism every young American should learn before they ever vote for it?

The Federalist Papers Here's a piece of history most schools skip. America tried socialism before it was even a country. In the early 1620s, the Plymouth colonists farmed land in common and shared the harvest. Hard workers got the same as slackers, so crops failed and people went hungry.... View More
