The Federalist Papers This meme says it all. When a criminal pulls the trigger, the left's first instinct is to go after the gun. Ban this rifle, limit that magazine, pass another law that law-abiding people will follow and criminals will ignore. But when a police officer or an ICE agent fires, the script flips.Suddenly nobody is talking about the gun. They're talking about the officer. Then the department. Then the entire agency, and whether it should exist at all.Notice the pattern? The criminal is never the problem. The badge is.Here's what gets lost in all the outrage. Most officers go their entire careers without firing their weapon on duty. Pew Research found only about a quarter of officers have ever done it. That's not a profession of trigger-happy cowboys. That's a profession where pulling the trigger is the rare, last resort. And when it does happen, it's almost always because the officer believes their life, or someone else's, is in immediate danger.A suspect reaching for a waistband. A driver flooring it toward an agent standing in the road. A man who decides he is not going back to jail, no matter what.Officers get a fraction of a second to make that call. The critics get weeks to second-guess it from a couch.Criminals don't always come quietly. Some fight. Some run. Some try to kill the person trying to arrest them. That's not a policy failure. That's the job.None of this means every shooting is justified. Every one should be investigated, and the facts should decide, not the hashtags. But you can't spend all week telling Americans that guns are the problem, then decide the person holding the gun is the problem only when they're wearing a badge.Pick one.Why do you think the left treats a criminal's gun and an officer's gun so differently?
