The Federalist Papers
This cartoon is funny because everyone has seen it in real life.
The protester shouting that capitalism exploits people, typed on an iPhone, posted from a MacBook, with a $7 latte in the other hand.
Then she goes home and opens her Amazon box.
Let's be clear about what she's holding. That phone exists because a company risked billions developing it, competed for customers, and sold it at a price millions could afford. The coffee, the chips, the makeup, the trendy tumbler, all of it was made, shipped, and delivered to her door by the system she claims is destroying the world.
She doesn't actually hate capitalism. She hates the word.
What she loves is choice, convenience, and abundance. Same-day delivery. Fifty flavors of everything. A device in her pocket more powerful than the computers that sent men to the moon.
Those things don't come from central planning. No government committee ever invented the smartphone or figured out how to get a package across the country overnight.
And here's the part that really gets me. Many of the loudest "eat the rich" voices aren't struggling at all. They protest from the comfort of the very prosperity they want to tear down.
Ask someone who grew up in Cuba or Venezuela what life without capitalism looks like. They'll tell you about empty shelves, ration cards, and hours spent in line for basics. Not one of them would trade a grocery store for a protest sign.
If capitalism is so evil, the solution is simple. Stop using its products. Give up the phone, the laptop, the coffee, and the online shopping. Grow your own food and sew your own clothes.
Nobody ever does.
That tells you everything. Their actions reveal what they really believe, even if their signs say otherwise.
Criticizing the system while enjoying every benefit it offers isn't activism. It's hypocrisy with a hashtag.
Why do you think so many people who benefit from capitalism are so eager to tear it down?
