The Federalist Papers Gov. Kathy Hochul wants ICE to back off in New York. Nothing new there.But listen to how she made her case on MS NOW."People are afraid to go to church. They're afraid to go to school. We don't want them afraid to go vote either. They need to vote."Read that last part again.Afraid to go vote? Who exactly is she talking about?ICE doesn't arrest American citizens for voting. A citizen walking into a polling place has nothing to fear. Not one thing.So the only people who'd be scared off by ICE are people who aren't supposed to be voting in the first place.Democrats keep telling us noncitizen voting almost never happens. It's a myth, they say. Nothing to see here.Okay. Then what's her problem?If illegal aliens aren't voting, ICE has zero effect on turnout. Her worry only makes sense if she's counting on votes that shouldn't be cast.And let's talk about Americans for a second. We don't scare easy.Tell an American the government is going to stand outside the polls to keep him home, and he'll show up early, bring his neighbors, and wait in line all day out of pure stubbornness.That's who we are. It's been in our DNA since 1776.Intimidation doesn't suppress American voters. It fires them up.Hochul knows this. She isn't worried about citizens. She's spinning a story to keep ICE out of New York, and she slipped and said what she was really thinking.That's not compassion.
