The Federalist Papers Rep. Ayanna Pressley, a Massachusetts Democrat, is outraged. Not about the 13 people Nidal Hasan gunned down at Fort Hood. About his execution.Reacting to news that Hasan will face an Army firing squad, Pressley posted on X:"This is horrifying and barbaric. We should not be executing ANYONE in America. Not by firing squad. And certainly not publicly. We need to abolish the federal death penalty and impeach this incompetent, insecure, and violent Defense Secretary."To be fair, Pressley is consistent. She has been pushing to abolish the federal death penalty since 2019.But this cartoon says it all.On Nov. 5, 2009, Army Maj. Nidal Hasan walked into a processing center at Fort Hood, where he was stationed. He shouted "Allahu Akbar," and opened fire on unarmed men and women.Thirteen dead. Thirty-two wounded. You could argue Hasan was a one-man firing squad in a very public place. His victims got no trial, no appeals, and no 17 years to file petitions. They got no mercy. He betrayed the soldiers who served beside him. He betrayed the country whose uniform he wore. It was terrorism, and it was hate.A military jury sentenced him to death in 2013. He ran out of appeals.War Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended a firing squad. President Trump approved it. It will be carried out Dec. 3 at Fort Hood, at the same time of day the shooting began.Barbaric? Barbaric is what happened inside that building.Pressley is free to object. She is also free not to watch.
