For six years Elmer, 78, has pulled into lane 2 at a bank in Hickory, North Carolina, every Friday. The tube comes back with his receipt and one dog biscuit for Dime, the terrier on his front seat. Dime went missing from Elmer's porch on a Sunday. The following Thursday a car nobody at the bank knew pulled into lane 2. Connie has run that window longer than Elmer has had Dime. On her monitor, a terrier in the back seat had both paws up on the door and was staring straight at the tube. The driver sent through a deposit. Connie told him the system was running slow. She called Elmer's house from the back office. He lives four minutes away. The lane camera shows the rest. An old pickup pulls in behind the car. Elmer gets out and opens the back door, and Dime is in his arms before the driver turns around. The man pulled away without his receipt. Connie sent two biscuits through the tube. See less
