FIGHTING THE INVITATION
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 KJV
God says, “Come.” Yet man spends much of his life fighting the very invitation that could save him.
He braces himself against the door while piling up his own answers:
worldly wisdom,
self-righteousness,
excuses,
sacraments,
church traditions,
good works, and
religious rituals.
He is working harder to avoid Christ than it would take to simply come to Christ by faith.
The tragedy is that some of those things may appear religious.
A man can attend church, observe traditions, perform good works, participate in sacraments, and practice religious rituals—and still be lost. Religion cannot do what only Jesus Christ can do.
Jesus did not say, Come to your works. He did not say, Come to your church traditions. He did not say, Come to your religion.
He said, “Come unto me.”
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12 KJV
Stop pushing against God's invitation with man's answers. Your excuses cannot save you. Your works cannot save you. Your religion cannot save you.
Christ already did the work at Calvary.
The door is not being held shut by God. Man is fighting against the invitation to come.
