Sabrina Cervantes, who, in May of 2025, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after a car crash. The bill forces Sheriff Bianco to step down from his elected role as public Coroner of Riverside County and for the Democrat majority County Board of Supervisors not just to appoint a separate person to serve this role, but a whole new department. 48 out of 58 counties in California have a Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office under the same person, same department. SB 1379 targets Sheriff Bianco only; all 57 other counties are excluded. This comes after the County is already experiencing a nearly $70 million deficit, which they now have to find funding for a whole new department, staff, and building. This is another wave of Sacramento's political weaponization against Sheriff Bianco. The Democrat County Supervisors defunded his department by $125 million. Newsom signed a law that prevents Sheriffs from counting ballots subject to an investigation and the recent California Supreme Court ruling.
