What is the “Curley Effect,” and is it being employed in blue cities like NYC?
The answer is “Yes” and I think we can include Dearborn MI and parts of Texas too.
It is a political strategy named after Boston Mayor James Michael Curley, who served between \(1914\) and \(1950\). It describes politicians deliberately shaping voter demographics to help guarantee reelection, often by driving out groups likely to support their political opponents.
Mayor Curley targeted wealthy Protestant minorities with taxes, encouraging them to leave Boston and helping ensure that the remaining Irish Catholic working class would keep him in power.
In the process, he damaged Boston’s tax base and harmed its economy. But Curley was interested in short-term political power, not long-term prosperity.
I submit that this is what is happening in NYC under Mayor Mamdani. He has stated that he intends to target wealthy white people with punitive taxes. He is already driving both wealthy and middle-income residents out of the city. But I believe Mamdani’s larger goal is to replace native New Yorkers with deep ties to the city with Muslims and 3rd world immigrants who DGAF about NYC—or the nation—and are here only to drain public resources.
But that is just my view. I am simply pointing out that nothing the left is doing is new. All one has to do is study history to recognize the playbook. They are not original thinkers; they are agents of chaos, here to deceive and destroy.
