During the 1960’s after Castro took over the island of Cuba and installed his communist there was a great number of political refugees fleeing the island due to the repressive and tyrannical communist administration. Castro nationalized all private schools, hospitals, businesses and all private property, mandated work programs and took total control of all production. As a result of this socialist revolution the mass exodus of 3 million Cuban citizens to brave the dangers of navigating the open ocean in little more than homemade rafts to get to the freedom in the United States of America. This is in spite the fact that Mexico is slightly closer with calmer seas to navigate, virtually no Cubans went to Mexico! Why?
